"Nothing is more beautiful than a guitar, save perhaps two," said Chopin. We agree! We've put Guitar Duos on special this month, so find a guitar-playing pal, grab some music, and create some beauty! Some of our favourites:
Songs of Spring, No. 1 - Sunlight (H. Wadsworth)
Perfect timing - we could all use a bit more sunlight this time of year...
Zany Rock (G. Ulrich)
"There is not a serious note in this guitar duo - it's for players who want to have fun! Try sliding up to some notes; mix the slides, vibratos and syncopations together with a swing feel. Make it sound as zany as you can!" - Gunar
El Choclo (A. Villoldo, arr. K. Krantz)
"Ángel Villoldo (1861 - 1919) was an Argentine musician and one of the pioneers of tango. He was born south of the city of Buenos Aires. He was a lyricist, composer and one of the major singers of the era. "El Choclo" (Spanish: meaning "The Ear of Corn" more accurately "The Corn Cob") is a popular song written by Ángel Villoldo, allegedly written in honour of and taking its title from the nickname of the proprietor of a nightclub, who was known as El Choclo. It is probably one of the most popular tangos in Argentina." - Klas
Three Sketches (K. Love)
"These are three short colour pieces based on some piano music that I wrote for my friend’s daughter and are depictions of her and her two siblings. “Waltz” is a deep and dreamy 12 year old girl; “The Runner” is a 10 year old soccer - playing boy; “Beguine” was a sentimental portrait of a teenage girl that somehow became a Latin dance on the guitar." - Kevin
Seven Short Pieces by Mozart (W, A. Mozart, arr. K. Krantz)
"1. Là ci darem la mano from Don Giovanni. 2. Theme from the Clarinet Concerto. 3. Der Vogelfnger from The Magic Flute 4. Theme from Piano Concerto No. 21 (Andante). 5. Rondo from Eine kleine Nachtmusik. 6. Romance from Eine kleine Nachtmusik. 7. Rondo alla turca from Piano Sonata No. 11. W. A. Mozart (1756 –1791) was a prolific and influential composer of the Classical era. His output of over 600 compositions includes works widely acknowledged as pinnacles of symphonic, concertante, chamber, piano, operatic, and choral music." - Klas
